David Fisher - Sonata in Canon

Other Information

This Sonata in Canon was orginally written for and dedicated to four very talented trumpet/cornet players: Tarot Conway, Theresa Kaiser, Darren Pearce and James Stretton who performed the work in its original form. Although completely in canon until the last section, the work is effectively in three short movements which overlap as the canon develops. It tests the players in agility, tongueing and dynamic control. It was suggested for a PhD portfolio that the piece could be developed for other instruments and it would be just as effective, if not better, for flutes in a new key, new tempo and with modified parts. That is now the preferred version although the original works just as well.
