During my time as a choir member I have sung most of the great masses and some little-known ones, too.  My favourite movement has often been the Benedictus, but too often it is set only or mainly for soloists.  So I thought I would make a setting where the choir did all the work.  To my mind, Latin words have a musicallity not shared by other languages and it is this I have exploited in my setting.  The word benedictus is very lyrical, qui venit is a sort of sigh, while in nomini Domine is quite rhythmic.
