Songs of Sadness consists of two songs with words by Charlotte Mew: I so liked Spring and Love love today, in which the singer is mourning lost love.  I was attracted by the poignancy of the words which seemed to be crying out to be set to music.  I also liked the underlying, commonsense messages in these poems:  be grateful for what you have now, and don´t let  chances pass you by.
