First performance: 08/05/10 at the Adrian Boult Hall, Birmingham Conservatoire, by Birmingham Schools` Concert Orchestra, conducted by Bob Vivian.  It is in three movements.  The first movement is restless in mood, with contrasting lyrical sections in 7/8; the middle movement, entitled ´Nocturne´, is dark and brooding, and the Symphonietta ends joyously [Movement 3 is available as a download on the left], the opening horn figure influenced by the first movement of Mendelssohn`s Italian Symphony.
