Other Information

This work was written for Peter White and the Songmen of Leicester Cathedral. It was first performed on St Martin´s Day [Wednesday 10th November] in 1976 and repeated on Ash Wednesday [23rd February] in 1977 as part of Leicester Cathedral´s Golden Jubilee. It never became a regular work with the Songman so parts were reworked as part of the composer´s own Mass to the Trinity.

Collect for St Martin´s Day:

"O God who callest Martin from military service to be a leader in the army of Christ: Give us grace to follow his faith, his compassion and his apostolic zeal that others may be won by us into the ranks of righteousness; through the same Thy Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen"
