David Fisher - Adam lay ybounden

Other Information

This early work [composed less than a month after Fisher´s 17th birthday] was performed in St James the Greater in 2002 as part of David Fisher´s 50th birthday and also performed at the Leicester Cathedral Legacy Concert on October 12th 2013. This is the programme note from that concert:

Adam lay ybounden

Another early piece, this one written early in 1970 for a group called Octave. This was a group of eight friends based at Holy Apostles Church where Alan Warren was the vicar and later Precentor of Leicester Cathedral. The Rev. Alan Warren commissioned my first professional work which was A Christmas Suite for all the children at his church. I received the grand sum of 10 shillings [50p]. This carol, however, is not connected and is in ternary form [accompanied, a cappella and accompanied again] and composed with the Leicester Cathedral organ in mind.

It was also performed by the senior trebles and songmen of Leicester Cathedral on 1st December 2013 in the Advent Carol Service directed by Dr Chris Johns with Simon Headley on the organ. The work was reset for Dr Johns and Leicester Cathedral Choir for December 2013 but no revisions were made to the juvenile work.

The recording is of Kingfisher Chorale conducted by David Fisher with Simon Headley on the organ.
