Other Information

Gloria in excelsis! is a carol for upper voices with organ accompaniment which was derived from the mixed voice work The Gift to Sing [June 2018] and first performed at the popular series of A Countertenor´s Christmas concerts held at Evangelische Versöhnungskirche, Ehrenfeld in Köln, Germany each December. The soloists were  Benita Barbonus [soprano], Ute Eisenhut [soprano], Melissa Hegney [mezzo], Arnon Zlotnik and Joachim Diessner von Isensee [countertenors]. The organist was Thomas Pehlken.

The world premiere of the upper voice version was at Evangelische Versöhnungskirche, Ehrenfeld in Köln on 2nd December 2018 and the mixed voice version was by Viva la Musica under Simon Lumby with Michael Overbury on the organ at St Aidan's Church, New Parks, Leicester on 9th December 2018.

The words are in a dual language edition with the original German by Martin Luther [1483-1546] translated into English in 1855 by Catherine Winkworth[1827-1878] and it incorporates a verse from Psalm 150. This version is in English [below left] with the German original below right.
